Update for International Branches regarding change to Student Membership;
Following a recommendation from the International General Assembly, the
IFE Board of Directors has made the following changes to eligibility
for the grade of Student Member.
In order to provide greater clarity students following an ongoing programme of study, including IFE qualifications, may be Student Members of the IFE for up to five years, at which point they will be required to upgrade their membership or transfer to Affiliate status.
Existing Student Members who have been in Student grade for five years or more on 31 December 2010 will be contacted and offered one of the above options when renewals are next sent out at the end of the year.
With immediate effect all new students applying for membership will be required to submit details / evidence of place of study, length of course and course details before student membership can be processed. This could be, for example, a copy of a letter from the course provider confirming enrolment.
Going forward, you will need to make sure that you are satisfied that new student applicants are indeed on a course of ongoing study. We suggest that you check the following:
Place of study
Name of course / qualification
Date course started
Date course due to finish
Duration
The student application form will shortly be updated to help with this.
IFE HQ will need to be sent the complete student application form plus evidence of study for each new student application. This could be, for example, a copy of a letter from the course provider. We are happy to receive these in electronic format, however forms will not be processed without the necessary evidence attached .

New Student 5 Year Ruling
You may already be aware that following a recommendation from the International General Assembly, the IFE Board of Directors has made the following changes to eligibility for the grade of Student Member:
Applicants for Student grade membership will be required to be following a recognised ongoing programme of study. You may be a Student member of the IFE for up to five years, at which point you will be required to upgrade your membership (e.g. Technician, Graduate, Associate or Member), or transfer to Affiliate status.
According to our records the following list of your members have now been a Student member of the IFE for at least 5 years and we are writing to them to let them know that they will need to think about upgrading or they will automatically be invited to re-new as an Affiliate Member when the renewal letters are posted out during December 2010, subject to their current membership being fully paid.
Please be aware that the list of members stated also include non-members (This means that they have yet to pay their subscription for 2010 or they have cancelled this year). The members in question should be getting the letters in the next few days. We have also included in this letter a leaflet informing them of the options regarding upgrading.
